West Coast Flood Emergency
Over $2 billion of damage in California. Water chief says "we dodged a bullet." If the storm had
hit as predicted, the City of Sacramento would have been under water. Significant danger is
still ahead, as Shasta and New Melones Dams reach capacity, prolonging the threat of serious
flooding and levee breakage, especially if rains resume. Over 100,000 people have been evacuated,
including large parts of the San Joaquin Valley near Modesto and Manteca as the
Tuolumne River rises 15 feet above
flood stage.
It may be many weeks before major roads are restored, including Hwy. 50 in the Sierras,
Hwy. 395 near Bridgeport, and the Feather River Highway. The town of Belden has been washed away
and buried in debris from flash floods in side canyons of the Feather River. Access is by helicopter.
Washington: 19 counties in state of emergency. Thousands without power. Landslides and flooding closes numerous roads.
Oregon: Numerous landslides, road closures. Check for current status on road closures.
Idaho: State of Emergency in 13 counties. Check for current status on road closures.
